![]() ![]() MacBooks with an ambient light sensor can automatically raise or lower the screen's brightness. One Switch for Mac lets you turn on the screensaver in just one click. You can easily do this by placing the shortcut icon for Screen Saver on the menu bar. Perhaps you're in a meeting and would like easy access to a blank screen after reporting. Toggle it on or off and change the time settings conveniently from the menu bar. One of the handiest features from the app One Switch, Keep Awake prevents your Mac from going to sleep for a set period. Enhance the Control Center with Keep AwakeĮasily switch how long you want your MacBook to stay on by displaying Keep Awake on the menu bar. With this feature turned on, the menu bar only appears when your hover the mouse over it. Use the Quick Reveal feature from Bartender to hide the menu bar out of sight. It's one less item visible on screen, which could create a cleaner look. It's a matter of preference, but you could opt for a menu bar that stays hidden until it's needed. No Spacing comes in handy when you want to fit more icons on the menu bar. With Bartender, you can set the spacing to Normal, Small, or No Spacing. Use Bartender, an app that lets you personalize your menu bar, to set a spacing that suits your preferences. Set different spacing for iconsĭepending on how many app and system icons you have on the menu bar, icons could look either too crowded or too far apart. Simply hold down the Command key and drag the icon you want to remove from the menu bar. You could choose to hide these icons and display only those that you need. If you've been using your MacBook for some time now, you might realize that you probably don't use some of the icons on the menu bar very often. It contains app and status menus and the battery level of your device. Most importantly, with Bartender being incorporated straight into macOS, the large percentage of Mac users who don’t already know Bartender exists would be able to take advantage of this as well, meaning that everyone benefits in this situation. The default Mac menu bar is visible on top of the screen. If you were acquired by Apple, you could add features like scrollable menus or a Bartender Bar for the left side of the menu, something I don’t think is currently possible with a third-party app. The only way for it to become a native feature and be implemented as well as it currently is in your app is for Apple to buy you out, and you could work with the macOS software team to further optimize the menu bar, and continue to respond to users’ feature requests with this email. Bartender should change from a paid third-party app to a native feature of macOS, which would solve the menu bar issue for the majority of Mac users, notch or not. I think Bartender should be acquired by Apple. So, I think I have a solution, and before I tell you, fair warning that I am not a businessman, I have no affiliation with Apple, and don’t know about how a lot of my plan would work in a financial sense, but I want to tell you why it makes sense in a technical sense. Bartender fixes this issue for me, as I have most of my menu bar items located in the Bartender Bar so they don’t crowd the main bar, but not every Mac user wants to spend $15 or sign up for Setapp for such a simple app that solves such a fundamental issue that is currently plaguing many of Apple’s most “pro” Mac users who just threw them $2000+ on a new MacBook. ![]() Because of the notch, there is less space on either side of the menu bar to place icons so oftentimes, the icons get very close to the notch and sometimes, as shown in Snazzy Labs’ tweets, even go under the notch, making them frankly unusable and making Apple’s software team seem like they didn’t know the MacBook Pro even had a notch. ![]() The reason? I recently upgraded to the brand new 14-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro with a notch. I used to think it was a nice app to have on my Mac but now I think it is a necessity. I think it’s a great way to organize my menu bar so it is less cluttered, and all-in-all, functions like an “App Library” for my menu bar. I have been a big fan of the Bartender app for a long time. ![]()
